Boxes for pickup point cells: store more orders in the same space and find each one by its cell number

When the system has more cells than there are spots on the shelves, pickup points (PVZ) switch to boxes. Each box covers a range of cells and holds orders from different customers, with the cell number on every order. Below, we explain how to set this up at a Wildberries, Ozon or Yandex Market pickup point, how many cells to put in a box and what to use instead of a marker.

In short

  • A separate shelf spot for every cell eats up storage space: 30 m² fits 315–504 such spots (our calculation based on WB’s Design Guidelines for pickup points; assumptions below).
  • A box for a range of cells takes up space for the actual volume of orders, not for every number: empty cells don’t need any space.
  • We found no direct ban on boxes. WB’s Design Guidelines say items can be stored in ordinary boxes, and Ozon recommends sorting postings into boxes by cell range.
  • In a shared box, an order can only be found by the number on its bag. WB has banned markers for any work with items (stains carry a fine of 50% of the item’s value under the WB Offer), and Ozon asks staff not to write on items. WB suggests writing on top of a thermal label or masking tape; Ozon, on a sticky note, a price tag or masking tape.
  • A printed label is the same medium, except that the number is written by a printer instead of by hand. Numberries prints it on its own at the moment of receiving.
  • The 40 × 28 × 34 cm boxes that Ozon also calls “boxes for cells” are equipment for Ozon Shelf (Ozon Полка), which stores sellers’ goods, not customer orders (details below).

Situation. Your storage area is half empty for now, but the number of cells will grow with your order volume.

What to do. Start with cell boxes and Numberries labels right away: your staff won’t have to give up the marker habit, and you won’t have to rebuild your storage area.

Situation. The system has more cells than your shelves have spots, and the overflow sits in a box with handwritten numbers.

What to do. Switch to cell boxes now: a box takes up space only for actual orders, and Numberries prints the number on the bag.

Other pickup point systems

Situation. Your pickup point also hands out orders from other services, such as CDEK or Avito.

What to do. In Numberries, choose the “Выбрать область” (Select area) profile and draw a frame around the spot where your pickup point app shows the number. This works if the number appears on screen as digits: from 1 to 9999 or with a hyphen.

Numberries is independent software and isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by Wildberries, Ozon or Yandex. Each marketplace has its own terms for pickup points: check your contract before installing (details).

When shelves run out: calculating pickup point storage space

If every cell gets its own spot on a shelf, you run out of storage space before you run out of numbers. A box for a range of cells uses space only for the orders that are actually there, not for every number.

At Wildberries, all of a customer’s items go into one cell: the WB ПВЗ app (formerly WB Point) offers to merge scattered items, and when the cell is changed, it moves them all at once. So the number of cells grows with order volume. Pickup points have 200–250 cells (according to a WB pickup point owner) or more than 500 (“КП”). Over the New Year holidays, an owner of two WB pickup points had 209 cells occupied with 200 shelf spots. The overflow was “put in a separate box, with the number written on each parcel. 201, 202, 203…”.

At Ozon and Yandex Market, the result is the same: when there aren’t enough cells, orders from different customers end up in one cell (see the quotes in the table below). At Ozon, address storage is mandatory, with at least 30 customer cells per pickup point.

How much space do cells take if each one gets its own shelf spot? We calculated it from WB’s Design Guidelines for pickup points: a 100 × 51 × 185 cm shelving unit (p. 149); the illustration shows a section with 5 shelves of 3 cells each (p. 150); storage should take “at least 50% of the floor area, preferably 60–70%” (p. 42); aisles are 100 cm, or 70 cm with one manager (p. 64).

This is an example calculation, not a standard. Assumptions: a 6 × 5 m storage area; 100 × 51 cm sections in a single row along the walls and a double-row island, 1 m aisles, the area by the door kept clear; 3–4 cells per shelf, 5–6 shelves; 50–80% of cells occupied, 1.5 parcels per customer; a box of about 38 L holds 10–15 parcels. The real numbers for your storage area may differ either way.

The main difference: a shelf spot for a cell is taken even when the cell is empty. WB says 92% of customers pick up their orders in the first few days. So a noticeable share of cells is always empty, and the space set aside for them sits idle — that’s our conclusion.

Can you store orders in boxes? What WB, Ozon and Yandex Market say

We found no direct ban. WB’s Design Guidelines for pickup points say items can be stored in ordinary boxes, and Ozon recommends sorting postings into boxes by cell range. The restrictions concern other things: bulky items, cameras and records in the system.

Restrictions to keep in mind

  • Bulky items don’t go in boxes. WB removed the information that bulky items can be stored on shelves from its “Управление складской зоной” (Storage area management) course (WB ПВЗ post, Sep 2, 2025). Ozon has a system cell “КГТ-1” for bulky items (КГТ), and the pickup point creates other bulky-item zones itself (Ozon Универ ПВЗ, Jul 2, 2026).
  • Boxes must not block cameras. Ozon: “Make sure the view isn’t blocked by boxes, crates or other objects” (Ozon Универ ПВЗ, May 7, 2026).
  • Every move is recorded in the system. Ozon: if an action isn’t completed in Ozon Turbo (Турбо ПВЗ), “errors and claims may occur” (Ozon Универ ПВЗ, Aug 7, 2026). At WB, an item that isn’t where its status says it should be during an inventory check is considered lost (WB Offer, revision 155, clause 11.5).

An important caveat: Ozon recommends boxes within address storage, not instead of it. The address is still the cell number in the system. WB has no direct permission to put orders from different customers into one physical box — only the advice about dividers and ordinary boxes.

How storage in cell boxes works

A box covers a range of numbers, not a customer. The marketplace’s system still assigns the cell, and every bag carries its number. Below are six steps: the layout is ours, based on Ozon’s advice and the experience of pickup points.

  1. Shelving and boxes

    A 100 cm section shelf fits three boxes with a 28–30 cm front: 400 × 300 × 300 mm, 380 × 280 mm or 40 × 28 × 34 cm. Use sturdy boxes of the same size, open at the top or with one side cut away.

  2. Ranges

    Numbers go in order: left to right, top to bottom. A consistent layout of boxes and shelving is one of the tips from Ozon’s survey.

  3. Box labels

    A large printed label with the range, for example “121–140”, on the end that faces the aisle.

  4. Receiving

    Scan → the system names the cell → number on the label → label on the outer bag → bag into the box for its range. You can sort into “wagon” boxes at the desk and carry them to the shelving in one go.

  5. Handover

    The system names the cell → the right box → bags with that number → check against the screen. At WB, every item is scanned before handover in “Проверка заказа перед выдачей” (Order check before handover).

  6. Keeping order

    Moved an order? Change the cell in the system. At WB, cell contents are checked in the WB ПВЗ mobile app: “Склад” (Storage) → cell → “Проверить товары” (Check items); at Ozon, with an inventory check.

Our tip for inside the box: stand bags upright with the label on top, like cards in a card file, and for a wide range, split the box into subgroups of numbers with a cardboard divider. WB’s Design Guidelines themselves recommend dividers “so that orders don’t get mixed up.”

Important. Stick the number label on the outer bag, on a clear area, not over the marking code (KIZ), barcode or QR code. There’s no specific rule about cell labels, but the marking code must stay readable: WB requires pickup points to report a marking code covered by labels (Appendix 2, clause 2.2.1), and the penalty for violating clauses 2.2 and 2.2.1 is a warning, then 10,000 ₽ (Appendix 4). Ozon asks staff to remove extra barcode labels as early as receiving (Ozon Универ ПВЗ, May 25, 2026). Practitioners recommend removing the cell label on returns and unclaimed orders (“Библиотечка ПВЗ”, Jul 30, 2024); the marketplaces have no separate rule about this.

How many cells to put in one box

About 13–20 cells, if a box holds 10–15 parcels, half the cells are occupied and a customer has 1.5 parcels on average (our calculation). In Ozon’s survey, many pickup points use boxes or containers for 4–10 cells. For your own storage area, use the formula or the calculator.

Example: a box holds 15 parcels, half the cells are occupied, and a customer has 1.5 parcels on average. That gives 15 ÷ (0.5 × 1.5) = 20 cells per box. For a “1–50” range under the same conditions, you need a box for about 37 parcels: a 600 × 400 × 400 mm box, or a storage area with a low load.

Ranges: 1–20, 21–40, 41–60… This is an estimate, not a standard: a shelving section has 5 shelves with 3 spots each. Your numbers aren’t sent anywhere.

How to find out your load: in the WB ПВЗ mobile app, the “Склад” (Storage) section shows all cells and the number of items in each. At receiving, Ozon suggests the first free cell or a cell where this customer’s items already are, so the lower numbers fill up more densely. It makes sense to make the first ranges narrower — that’s our conclusion; we haven’t checked how WB assigns numbers.

Why you shouldn’t write the cell number with a marker

Since Apr 2, 2024, WB has banned markers for any work with items, and for marker or pen stains, the WB Offer sets a fine of 50% of the item’s value — even if the pickup point reported the defect itself. Ozon asks staff not to write the number on items and packaging because writing increases refusals (Jan 22, 2026). Instead, WB suggests writing on top of a thermal label or masking tape, and Ozon, on a sticky note, a price tag or masking tape.

Staff don’t write the number on the bag out of laziness: the scanner is at the desk, the system shows the cell number on screen and reads it aloud, and it’s immediately ready for the next item. Nobody has time to run to the shelf after every scan. WB admits this: “We understand that during receiving, it’s more convenient to write the shelf cell number on the item with a marker. But the ink seeps into the packaging through holes or gaps…” (Aug 13, 2025).

From practice

In the words of a practitioner, an owner of Ozon and Wildberries pickup points: when orders from different customers are stored in boxes by cell range, the only way to find the right bag in a box is by the number on the order itself.

What the marketplaces say

  • WB, Apr 2, 2024: “using a marker for any work with items is prohibited,” and pens and pencils on items and packaging aren’t allowed either. The ban was repeated on Dec 5, 2024, and Aug 13, 2025. Marker and pen stains count as the “Загрязнение” (Soiling) defect; under the Offer (revision 155, Appendix 4, clause 5.18), that means 50% of the item’s value plus up to 20% of the return shipping cost.
  • Ozon, Jan 22, 2026: writing on items or packaging “often puts customers off,” and refusals and negative reviews go up. Ozon suggests writing the number on sticky notes, disposable price tags or masking tape, and also receiving and sorting items directly in storage so you don’t need to label them at all, or receiving on a smartphone in the Ozon Point app (“Пункт Ozon”). Writing on “сканиты” (return bags) is prohibited when sending returns (Jan 31, 2024).
  • According to owners, in the summer of 2024, Ozon inspections in Moscow charged 1,000 ₽ for each order with writing on it. We didn’t find an Ozon document about this.

“We write on the bag, not on the item”

WB explains that ink seeps in through holes in the packaging. A pickup point employee counted five items with marker traces in March during her shifts alone, from a bra at about 1,300 ₽ to a hoodie and a suit at about 4,000 ₽. Some of the deductions were successfully disputed, some weren’t.

An example: under the WB Offer, one stain on a 2,000 ₽ item costs the pickup point 1,000 ₽. That’s more than three months of a Numberries subscription (870 ₽ for three months).

“We write with a pen on a sticky note”

Both WB and Ozon suggest this. But a handwritten number is still handwritten:

  • 86 and 98, 17 and 11, 127 and 27 get mixed up when written fast, according to developers of number-printing apps (“Моя ячейка”, May 25, 2024; “ПВЗ Ячейки”, Jul 7, 2026);
  • writing smears on plastic film, according to the author of a label-printing utility (vc.ru, Aug 22, 2026);
  • every note takes time: an extra second per item across a thousand items adds almost 17 minutes to receiving (our arithmetic: 1,000 s ≈ 16.7 minutes).

The cost of a mistake in a box

Our conclusion: in a shared box, a wrong digit sends an order into someone else’s range, and the only way to find it is to go through everything. At WB, the “Не могу найти” (Can’t find) button gives you 48 hours to search, after which the item’s value is charged to the pickup point; as of May 4, 2026, the button was available at pickup points in Moscow. Under the WB Offer, handing over the wrong item costs 5,000 ₽, and 10,000 ₽ for a repeat offense (Appendix 4, clause 5.20). According to owners, Ozon charges 5,000 ₽ for a failed handover if the item can’t be found. We haven’t measured how many seconds a label saves yet, and we don’t cite other people’s time figures.

Printing the cell number at receiving with Numberries

Numberries is an app for Windows 10 (version 2004 or later) and Windows 11. It prints a label with the cell number automatically when a staff member receives an item.

  1. You scan the item as usual

    In your marketplace’s app, on the same computer.

  2. Numberries has the profile for your pickup point app selected

    • Wildberries: just select the profile. WB ПВЗ (called WB Point in the Numberries documentation) is open on the same computer; no extension needed.
    • Ozon (Ozon Turbo) and Yandex Market: you need the free Numberries Bridge extension for Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Yandex Browser.
    • Other pickup point apps: the “Своя область” (Custom area) mode, called “Выбрать область” (Select area) in the app: select the spot on the screen where the cell number appears, just once. Numbers made of digits from 1 to 9999 and numbers with a hyphen work.

  3. The printer outputs a label right away

    It shows the cell number in large digits, with the numberries.ru strip at the bottom. There’s no barcode, customer name or date.

  4. You stick the label on the outer bag

    Not on the marking code, barcode or QR code. Then you put the order in the box for its range.

Each marketplace has its own terms for pickup points. The decision to use the app and the responsibility for complying with the contract with the marketplace rest with the pickup point owner (clauses 13.2 and 14.3 of the End User License Agreement).

What matters for boxes

  • Each scan at receiving prints one label in the Wildberries, Ozon and Yandex Market profiles: a second order for the same cell gets its own label. For Ozon, this requires app version 1.3.0 and the Numberries Bridge extension 1.1.0 or later. In “Своя область”, the same number may not print a second time in a row; if that happens, press F10 to reprint the last label.
  • Check the number on the label against the screen: a bag without a label gets lost in a shared box, and the End User License Agreement (clause 17.3) allows for a missed label, an extra label or a wrong number. The documentation explains when a repeat scan in the Wildberries profile doesn’t print.
  • Ozon bulky-item cells print too, such as “КГТ-12-1”.
  • The app prints nothing at WB handover or on WB returns.
  • Any printer will do as long as it prints from Windows (how to choose and check a printer); a thermal label printer is the most convenient. Preset sizes are 30×20, 40×30, 40×40 and 58×40 mm, or you can set your own (label settings). For boxes, we recommend 40×30 or 58×40. Which printer to buy is covered in the “Printer for a pickup point” guide. You don’t need a separate scanner.
  • Cell numbers and order details stay on your computer.
  • You don’t have to print every number. In “Фильтры печати” (Print filters), you set a range with “от” (from) and “до” (to). For example, if cells 1–200 are on shelves and you only need labels for the overflow box, set “от 201” (from 201). This is an example setting; we haven’t tested this scenario (print filters).

What Numberries doesn’t do

  • it works only on Windows: receiving on a smartphone won’t work;
  • the Wildberries profile doesn’t work over remote access (RDP, AnyDesk) — “Своя область” still does;
  • it runs only one profile at a time;
  • it needs internet: without a connection for more than 30 hours, printing stops;
  • it doesn’t print range labels for the boxes themselves (“121–140”);
  • you can’t remove the numberries.ru strip from the label.

An example for 1,000 cells: 50–120 cardboard boxes at 67.54 ₽ each come to 3,377–8,105 ₽, plus 4–8 shelving units. With “cell = spot” storage, the same 1,000 cells would take 42–67 sections. A plastic container of the same volume lasts longer but costs 24 times as much as a cardboard box.

You can build shelving for a pickup point yourself, but WB’s Design Guidelines ask you to bolt the shelving units together and fix them to the wall or floor (p. 65). Practitioners buy 200 × 100 × 40 cm units and rebuild them from 5 to 6 shelves.

Numbering cells and boxes

Cell numbers are created in the system, while the pickup point labels the storage spots itself. A box needs a large printed label with its range.

  • Wildberries. The desktop WB ПВЗ app generates a PDF with cell QR labels: the “Наклейки для работы с товаром” (Item labels) menu → “Наклейки для ячеек” (Cell labels), then enter numbers or a range. Up to 33 labels fit on an A4 sheet. They’re used to change the cell with a scanner (WB ПВЗ post, Sep 30, 2025). One QR label stands for one cell, so you can’t use it to label a box with a range.
  • Ozon. Cells are created in the “Адресное хранение” (Address storage) section of Ozon Turbo; the pickup point labels shelves and boxes itself. Ozon recommends labeling bulky-item zones the same way they’re named in the system: “КГТ-1”, “КГТ-2” (Ozon Универ ПВЗ, Jul 2, 2026).
  • Yandex Market. The pickup point creates cells itself in its account; address storage has been mandatory since Sep 13, 2023 (Маркет ПВЗ, Aug 2, 2023; Маркет ПВЗ, Sep 1, 2023).
  • Boxes. A range label on the end of the box, in a large font: on an A4 sheet from any editor, or on a label printer through its own software. Numberries doesn’t print box labels, only the cell number label at receiving.

40×28×34 boxes and Ozon Shelf are something else

The 40 × 28 × 34 cm boxes that people now search for along with “boxes for cells” are equipment for Ozon Shelf (Ozon Полка). Ozon itself calls them “boxes for cells” and “cell boxes,” but they don’t hold customer orders: they hold sellers’ goods for resale.

Switch over in one evening: a checklist

Our checklist comes in two versions: for a pickup point that still stores orders on shelves, and for one that already uses boxes but writes numbers by hand.

Option A

From shelves to boxes

  1. Check how many cells are in the system and how many are occupied on a peak day. WB: WB ПВЗ mobile app → “Ещё” (More) → “Пункт выдачи” (Pickup point) → “Склад” (Storage). Ozon: “Адресное хранение” (Address storage) in Ozon Turbo.
  2. Calculate the range width in the calculator.
  3. Pick boxes of the same size, three per 100 cm section shelf. Intact boxes from deliveries will do too.
  4. Label the boxes with a printed range label, in order, left to right and top to bottom.
  5. Set aside space for bulky items: the bottom shelves or the floor next to the shelving.
  6. For small items, add an organizer or a box with compartments.
  7. Make sure the boxes don’t block the cameras over the storage and receiving areas.
  8. Then follow the Option B steps.
Option B

From marker to label

  1. Set up a thermal printer at the receiving station. Install Numberries, choose the marketplace profile and a 40×30 or 58×40 label size, and do a test print.
  2. Agree on three rules with your shift: the label goes only on the outer bag; never over the marking code, barcode or QR code; on returns and unclaimed orders, the cell label comes off.
  3. Remove the markers from the receiving desk. In case the printer breaks, keep masking tape and a pen: WB suggests writing with a pen or pencil on top of a thermal label or tape.
  4. Don’t relabel old bags with handwriting. From today on, new orders go only with a label.
  5. Moved an order to another box or cell? Change the cell in the system right away.
  6. Check box contents once a week: WB, with “Проверить товары” (Check items) in the “Склад” (Storage) section; Ozon, with an inventory check and cell changes.

FAQ

Can you store orders in boxes instead of on shelves?

We found no direct ban: WB’s Design Guidelines for pickup points say “Items can also be stored in ordinary boxes” (Jan 27, 2026, p. 150), and Ozon recommends sorting postings into boxes by cell range (May 14, 2026). The restrictions concern bulky items, cameras and records in the system; for details, see “What WB, Ozon and Yandex Market say”.

Won’t we mix up orders from different customers in one box?

Ozon and Yandex Market themselves put orders from different customers in one cell when cells run short. Mix-ups are prevented by the cell number on every bag and the check at handover. At WB, every item on the list is scanned before handover (“Проверка заказа перед выдачей”, Apr 24, 2024).

Can I write the cell number on the bag with a marker?

Not at WB: markers have been banned for any work with items since Apr 2, 2024, and the Offer sets a fine of 50% of the item’s value for marker stains. Ozon asks staff not to write on items and packaging because writing increases refusals (Jan 22, 2026).

What about a pen on a sticky note or masking tape?

The marketplaces themselves suggest this: WB, on top of a thermal label or masking tape; Ozon, on a sticky note, a price tag or masking tape. The downsides are handwriting, smudged digits and the time each note takes. A printed label is the same medium, except that the number is written by a printer.

Where should I stick the cell number label?

On the outer bag, on a clear area. Not over the marking code, barcode or QR code: they’re scanned at handover and on returns. And not on the item’s factory packaging if there’s no bag.

What should I do with the label on returns or unclaimed orders?

Practitioners recommend removing it: “Библиотечка ПВЗ” recommends using labels “that should be removed on return” (Jul 30, 2024). We didn’t find a separate marketplace rule specifically about the cell label. Ozon also asks staff to remove or black out extra barcode labels as early as receiving so that no extra item gets added to the balance (May 25, 2026).

Are the 40×28×34 boxes for Ozon Shelf the same thing?

No, although Ozon also calls them “boxes for cells.” Ozon Shelf stores sellers’ goods for resale: in the first stage (from Sep 10, 2026), refusals and items customers didn’t pick up; from mid-October, Ozon also plans small seller shipments. There are 18 “Ozon Полка-N” cells to start, and no more than 144 in total. For details, see “40×28×34 boxes and Ozon Shelf”.

What should I use to label the boxes themselves?

A printed range label: on an A4 sheet from any editor, or on a label printer through its own software. WB ПВЗ prints cell QR labels, up to 33 per A4 sheet, but each label stands for one cell. Numberries doesn’t print box labels, only the cell number label at receiving.

Does Numberries work if my cells are in boxes?

The app prints the cell number and doesn’t distinguish between a shelf and a box. We haven’t tested box storage — try it in your own storage area during the 14 days trial. How to set it up is covered in the Quick start.

How do I do an inventory check if orders are in boxes?

The same way as with shelves: the system checks items by cell, and a box is just the place where the cells of its range are. At WB, cell contents are checked in the WB ПВЗ mobile app: “Склад” → cell → “Проверить товары” (Feb 20, 2026). At Ozon, you can change the cell right in the inventory check if an item is in the wrong place (Jan 28, 2025). Our tip: go through one box at a time so you don’t mix up ranges.

What if an item gets lost in a box at a pickup point?

Check neighboring boxes and numbers that are easy to confuse in handwriting. At WB pickup points that have the “Не могу найти” (Can’t find) button (pickup points in Moscow as of May 4, 2026), you get 48 hours to search, after which the item’s value is charged to the pickup point. Receive a found item again in the “Приёмка” (Receiving) section.

How much does Numberries cost, and do I need a separate scanner?

290 ₽ a month or 2,900 ₽ a year, free for 14 days with no card required, and unlimited labels. You don’t need a separate scanner. You need a computer with Windows 10 or 11 and a printer that prints from Windows. Pricing.
